This is the second issue of the series of the SADC Gender Monitor produced in 2001 to monitor implementation of the Beijing commitments by SADC Member States. It is a follow up to the first issue of the SADC Gender Monitor produced in 1999. This second issue is a culmination of extensive research which takes up the critical thematic concerns raised in the first issue, including the girl child, health, education, power sharing and decision-making, poverty and economy, women’s human and legal rights as well as emergent issues such as HV/AIDS. The report also gives some success stories and setbacks that have been witnessed in the region.
