SARDC-IMERCSA is the regional focal node for INTERAISE. The project started in 1994 in recognition of the problem of locating and assessing environmental information at national and regional levels in southern Africa. The major output of the first phase was the development of the bibliographic database and production of the Directory of Environmental Information and Organisations in Southern Africa.
The second phase of the project funded under NETCAB is aimed at documenting environmental profiles, national conservation strategies, environmental action plans, UNCED reports and similar documents which provide natural resources information at national and regional levels. Under this phase, IMERCSA will develop a website and a CD-ROM, which will include a bibliographic database with text on important documents on environmental issues in southern Africa. The INTERAISE project will also benefit from other NETCAB activities such as the establishment of the regional SOE network. The project also seeks to contribute towards institutional capacity building by delivering available environmental information and strengthening institutional links in the region.
