The 39th SADC Summit held in August 2019 in Dar es Salaam declared
25 October as the date for SADC Member States to collectively voice
their disapproval of the sanctions through various activities and
platforms, until the sanctions are lifted. On 25 October 2019, SADC
Member States stood with Zimbabwe in challenging the imposition of
economic sanctions on the country.
SADC held a virtual meeting of Council of Ministers for the first time in its
history due to travel restrictions imposed by most Member States in response to
the COVID-19 pandemic. Chaiperson of the SADC Council, Prof. Palamagamba
John Kabudi, who is the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African
Cooperation, chaired the meeting from Dar es Salaam.
